About us

Acoma Book is a publishing “boutique”: we present valuable books with an intriguing insight into the human being, from all over the world to the Italian and international public and viceversa.
The well-known words by T. S. Eliot «All that is human interests us» inspire our everyday action.

How many titles? As many as it takes!

A children’s title from the Arab world that tells of the origin of us human beings, and when we belong, we are free to know the world.
The profound narrative beauty of the Work by a great master of 20th-century Italian literature, Eugenio CORTI. The communicative and educational intelligence of the MammaOca team, which admirably recounts and illustrates the fascination of the classics of world literature, summoning the great questions that lie at the human heart.
A true genius of the non-fiction illustration for children, Agostino TRAINI, likely the best-selling Italian author in his field worldwide, capable of conveying profound concepts related to reality (ecology, for example) and the spirit to the youngest children with an utterly sympathetic, lovable and beautiful artwork.

Silvia Vassena Acoma Book

SILVIA VASSENA: a publishing professional for the last decades she has been devoting her passionate action to the fields of humanities, art, illustrated titles and quality children’s books. She has been dealing with the internationalization of catalogues, the opening of new publishing lines, delving into developing or established markets, scouting challenging topics, scholars, authors and new business ventures. After founding Silvia VASSENA @ MILANO Consulting in 2015, in order to provide international publishers and publishing enterprises/ institutions concrete support in the path of their development, she has recently opened a new imprint: Acoma Book. In the wide production of books in Italy and around the world, there are still as many possibilities and stories to glimpse at as there are human experiences, cultures and glimmering worlds.

per l’alto mare aperto / sailing off to the open sea

we intend to sail off to the infinite horizons of human cultures, as Dante urges his readers throughout the centuries (Inferno, XXVI)

Why Acoma Book?

Book: in English, since our publishing vocation embraces the world.

Acoma: from Acoma Pueblo, New Mexico. In constant wandering of the great lands of the state of New Mexico in the United States, we encountered this Pueblo, inhabited by Keres-speaking natives, located about 80 miles west of Albuquerque. It is mainly situated on a mesa, a steep rock formation that stands isolated in a vast semi-desert plain. This geological formation, combined with other aspects, a human presence dating back centuries from ca. 1050 AD, a tragic history, a precious handicraft of pottery and terracotta, and an essentiality of forms, led us to see its essence: a place of great beauty that recalls the vocation of the human being, with all their dramatic events:  to stand up, to connect earth and sky. No wonder it is called the Sky City.

It is this call to restore the heart, the human kernel, reality and spirit that we wish to suggest to our international friends, readers and colleagues. Follow us on our next adventures!
